Final error: 0x84d9 - 0x 84d9 (34009) w/ USB B2D folders

Hello,

I am reposting in hopes of getting more responses to my previous question:

In summary,

I have 3 USB 2.0 external Harddrives. HD2 and HD3 will not allow backups to be written to them.

Job log:
Final Error: 0x84d9 - 0x 84d9 (34009)
Final error category: Other Errors

My process:

Deleted them under "DEVICES" as backup to disk folders.

assigned them drive letters Y: and Z: (they now mount to those drive letters when I plug them in)

I manually deleted all the BKE files that was in the old backuptodisk folder. So that the only folder is

Y:\databackup2
or
Z:\databackup3

I added that folder as the backup to disk folder under "DEVICES" tab

I performed a successful inventory and verified that it was online

I attemped a backup to this device and received

Final error: 0x84d9 - 0x 84d9 (34009)
Final error category: Other Errors

Howard,
You should have actually seen in the job log the error code shown as v-79-57344-34009 if you had clicked on that link in the job log, you would have gotten to the following technote:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/269633
This error indicated a problem reading the catalogs. This technote should help resolve the issue.
I hope you find the note about the link in the job log helpful.
Thanks,
Daniel

Thanks for the reply and link.
My seems to be a bit different than the link you sent me?

The link my error gives me is this:

http://eventlookup.veritas.com/eventlookup/EventLookup.jhtml?EvtID=V-79-0-34009

which is "not found"

I have tried the changes in your link though.

Btw.. i finally got HD3 to be backed up upon. However, I must inventory between 3-7 times before it finally "sees" it..

Are there any better solutions? Should i use BackupExec 10d?

Howard,
I'm glad you got things working. Regarding the link, I'm not sure what went wrong that the error code got changed (I will look into that further).
As for switching back to 10d to make this better, I would not expect this issue to be any different between 10d and 11d-the underlying code there hasn't changed.
The way Backup Exec deals with removable hard drives needs to be revisited to make it more elegant in the future.
Thanks for the feedback,
Daniel
