For Exchange backups with Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) backups Backup Exec will be able to restore individual items like mailboxes, emails, contacts, etc. from the Exchange backups and does not need to restore the complete Exchange database.

For SQL, Backup Exec will be able to restore individual databases but not the granular information inside the database like tables and all.

Thanks,

To add to the above if the backup sets are on tapes then you need to stage the backup set to local disk

before proceeding with GRT restore.
