If you have an Information Store backup then can create a Recovery Storage Group on the Exchange 2003 server and then add the Exchange database which has the mailbox. Then you can restore the complete Database to the Recovery Storage group.

Ones the restore is completed using ESEUTIL you can get the .pst file of the mailbox which you require.

Thanks,

Hello Kev,

Please refer to the following technotes

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH61294 : Exchange Agent backup/restore: How to troubleshoot the error message "Access is denied" in Backup Exec for Windows Servers

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH60522 : Access Denied when Restoring Individual Items from a Granluar Recovery Technology (GRT) Backup.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH52531 : Access denied is reported while running backups to disk, or restores from tape, of Exchange 2003 from an x64 bit media server.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH23455 : Error "Access denied to database Mailbox Store" appears while restoring Exchange 2000 Information Store

...if you don't come right here, your other option is to duplicate that backup to disk. Once done, use a third party application like Kernel for Exchange (licensed) to pull that information out and into a *.pst.

BE 2012 has the ability to restore to *.pst, but obviously you're using a previous version of BE.

Thanks!

...read the article below, the steps should be the same to duplicate:

hi craig

ive managed to duplicate the backup, its currently trying to restore but its been running for 20mins now with a zero byte count, so im assuming its eventually going to fail.

i have downloaded a demo of kernel for exchange, this program looks for an edb file, but the backup data .bkf files

any ideas on what i should try next?

thanks

...if you duplicate that IS to disk, it would give you your Exchange flat-files!

Do you backup to disk or tape?

Here OP is using BE 10d which did not had Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) feature. So duplicating the IS backup to disk will not give the Exchange flat files.
