HP LTO 920 tape library on SBS2003 not recongnised by BE 11d

Hi,

We have a ML350 server with SBS2003 Std edition with latest Windows patches.
We use BE 11D SP2 Rev 6235  for SBS Suite.
We installed be6235RHF12_32bit_289147.exe installed (latest driver updates for tape libraries).
We use a HP StorageWorks 1/8 Ultrium 920 G2 tape librbay.
The library + the drive have the latest firmware.
The HP L&TT (HP own management tool) recognises both the drive & the library.
We can do a backup to a tape loaded in the drive using BE.

Problem:
BE can see the drive, however, it does not see the library.
The Device Configuration Wizard sees the drive, but not the library.

What can we do to fix this problem???

Thank you for your help

Alexandre

Does windows see the library?  It should be listed under Medium Changers in device manager.  If it does see it what driver are you using for it?  It should be set to Unknown Medium Changer.

Is the service Removable Storage running? If so, either stop and disable it or stop it and set it to manual.

How is the device connected, SCSI or Fiber?

Hi Ben

Thank you for your quick reply

1. Yes Windows sees the Library
2. I can see it under Device Manager > Medium Changer > Unknown Medium Changer
3. It uses Windows driver V 5.2.3790.0
4. The Removable Storage is stopped, It is set to Manual.
5. The device is connected via SCSI using an Adaptec 29320LP 64Bit PCI-X SCSI

Cheers

Hi Ben

When I run the Device Driver Installer within BE & select to only use Symantec drivers, I get the following:

Finding tape devices
Finding plug and play tape device names
Hardware ID = SCSI\SequentialHP______C7438A__________V601
Hardware ID = SCSI\SequentialHP______Ultrium_3-SCSI__D22W
Finding IDE plug and play device instances
Finding SCSI plug and play device instances
Finding Symantec device drivers
Hardware scan complete
.
Thus, it sees the internal DDS 4 tape drive & the external LTO drive (but not the library)

Cheers

Hi all,

Do you have any suggestions with this question? We still cannot use the tape library. Smiley Sad

Alexandre,

First off the device driver installer is not going to show the library as we do not install drivers for the library, only tape drives.  So the driver installer not seeing it doesn't mean anything.  If you could locate the adamm.log file and post the contents of that for me.  It should be located in your install directory \logs.

Most times when I see this there is either another application causing the problem or the library is not giving BE all the information that is requested.

What I mean by another application, is that some applications will put in filter level drivers.  Sometimes these drivers cause problems for BE to see libraries and/or tape drives correctly.
