Am getting this error on an intermittant basis on several systems/versions.

the full error is:

V-79-57344-33039 - Error - Mount failed.
User canceled a Physical Volume Library operation.

Its almost like the software is not detecting there is a tape in the drive
and the job fails when it reaches its timeout

have just installed SP2 on a 10d system with SBS2003
this is the worst system i have in that it fails say twice a week now
the above error is from this particular system

other systems may only be twice per month (BE 9.1 SP4a)

Hello,
This is mostly a device related issue. Please check the following:

- Check if the latest Drivers are Installed
- also check if the latest Firmware is in place
- Check for any 5,7,11,15 Event IDs in the system event logs
- Check you have selcted the correct Media type under Tools -> Options -> Media management.

Thanx
Regards

Discovered their is new firmware for the HP DAT72 tape drive in this particular unit having the problem. Have installed this and the unit is now working fine. It has however only been a week.

We have other servers/tape drives with the same issues.

Another in particular we found it more stable if we schedule an inventory just prior to the start of the backup in an effort to force it to realize there is a tape in the drive
This seems to work well.
We shouldnt really have to be doing this however...

After now scheduling to do an inventory just prior to the backup job
even this shows there was no tape in the drive

We are certain that there was
