Having trouble recoverying an SBS 2003 Server using IDR

Craig_McCollum

I have successfully run an IDR prep which produces the following disk config file.

Supported Utility Partition found on HD 0, Partition 0.

Partition Type: de

Start position is 32256 bytes (0 MB)

Start address (C:H:S)= 0:1:1

Length is 106896384 bytes (101 MB)

End address (C:H:S)= 12:254:63

System Directory : C:\WINDOWS

The list of volumes (on fixed disks) on this system with their mount points:

\\?\Volume{6e5ebd40-3015-11da-b89b-806e6f6e6963}\

Most "friendly" name found is C:\

\\?\Volume{6e5ebd41-3015-11da-b89b-806e6f6e6963}\

Most "friendly" name found is D:\

Dynamic Disk Volumes

When trying to run the restore I do the following

1. Boot from the IDR CD
2. Hit Enter to start IDR process
3. Hit F6 to load 3rd parth RAID drive
4. Hit F2 to start ASR

When it asks for the device driver I provide it the RAID card is a Perc 5i

The process continues until this error is displayed.

The capacity of the replacement hard disk drives is insufficient and cannot be used to recover the partitions on the orinignal disk....

The system then gives me the option to restart.

The disks in the oringal server are 2 IDE drives software mirrored, they are not identical.

The disks in the new server total over 600 GB are are configure into a single RAID 5 Set.

The original server does have a Dell Utility Partition.

I have succesfully run IDR recovery on the new server from another production SBS 2003 server and from a test 2003 server with a dynamic disk, though not software mirrored. I am aware of MS technote 314686 but the new disks are far larger then the old disks. I have used 2003 media that does not contain service pack 1 as this has been highlighted as an issue.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Craig
