The drive shows up in device mgr. HP DAT !60 and also is discovered using the device wizard in BE. Nothing shows under devices even after reboot...SP4 is installed.

Found bad scsi cable. no bent pins just bad cable. Thanks for the help.

HP DAT 160 get the same result using Backup 2010.

Try using the Tapeinst utility in the BE installation directory to install the Symantec drivers.

I assume that the HP DAT 160 is a standalone drive. In the device manager could you confirm that the tape drive is using Symantec drivers??
If not then in Backup Exec go to TOOLS>>WIZARDS>>DEVICE CONFIGURATION WIZARD and install the Tape Device drivers.

What interface?
If is is USB, please make sure you install the HP driver per the footnote on the HCL.
"For all USB tape drives, the vendor's device driver must be loaded prior to starting Backup Exec for Windows Servers."
