How should I back up PST files?

PST files reside on a shared network drive.
If someone happens to have pst file open, the following error appears in the log.

WARNING: "\\LEAF60N\E:\usr\salonepe\salonepe.pst" is a corrupt file.
This file cannot verify.
Database or database element is corrupt

How should pst file backup be handled?

of if yu want to throw money at it, you can purchase an AOFO license
