How to Fix Tape Problem "Not Appendable"

Backup Exec 2010 R3, Version 13, Rev 5204.

I have a backup job that runs every night.  It is a "full" backup of my system and is set to OVERWRITE the tape every time.  I have a tape that occasionally will not mount for the job.  When I check the tape in the media section is says,

Not appendable (End marker unreadable)

I get an alert telling me to remove the media from the drive.  I have to cancel the job.  How can I fix this issue on the tape?

I read other posts with the same issue.  The problem apparently started when an append job (or other job) on this tape did not finish correctly, leaving a bad end marker.  I was able to clear the problem by doing a Quick Erase on the tape.  I then started the full backup and the tape is now working.  Issue resolved.
