How to exclude file types from backups?

Chris_Teillon

I am backing up a NAS CIFS share that does not have the remote agent on it (because there is not remote agent for our NAS).

It backs up fine except for files that may be open.  In particular .pst files.  Since most users dont reboot when they leave at night we seem to have multiple errors come up each night.

I would like to exclude all .PST files from my backups and am unsure how to do it.,

thanks in advance
chris

I have followed the instruction hwoever it does not seem to work.

Each time i open up the advanced options again the path and file name are blank.

how can i see if the exception is in place?

what is the best way to set the path?

This is how I am going about doing it:
I open either the backup job or the selection list properties
Click the advanced button
Either, type in the full path or drill down to it in the drives list
type in *.pst for the file name
click ok

what am i doing wrong?

To see if your excludes took, open the Selection List in Text format rather than Graphical format

Ok I am showing in the text view format that the *.pst /subdir /exclude is there.

However it is still trying to back up .pst files and erroring out on them.

any other thoughts?

When you set it up, did you specify \\*\* in the path statement?  (any server\any share)?

it was actually done just for that one CIFS share.

However I changed it to \\*\*

We will see if it works tonight.

thanks
