How to make private net work

Hi,

I have:

1 media server: Windows server 2003 standard with all security update, Backup Exec 10.05484 with service pack 1 with Dell PV-132T library.
6 file servers: Windows server 2003 standard with all security update, Backup Exec 10 remote agent.

Each server has two ether cards; one is on public net, the other on private.
6 file servers are configured identically. Four of them do backup via private net work. But two of them can not use private net work; they use public net work both as control connection and data connection. The media server can ping the private IP of these two file servers and vice versa. Reboot did not help any.

How can I make all of them use private net work to do backup?

Thanks,

Luyi

Hello,

In backup exec 10.0, the control connection as well as the data connection is made from the media server. Can you elaborate on the part where you have mentioned that two of the six servers use the public network during backup?

What is the option chosen in Backup exec under tools-options- network- network interface? There in you can specify the network card you want to use for backups. Also what are the ports specified for the media server and the remote agent? Ensure that you have 50 ports restricted for the media server and 25 o ther ports for the remote agent. Port 10000 on the remote servers is used for connectivity.

Do elaborate the status of the 2 servers in question.
In case we do not hear from you within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.
