How to resolve Quantum Autoloader 3 and Backup Exec 10d installation problems in Windows 2000

Hi,

After connecting on old backup machine I got big problems with my Backup Exec 10d and my Quantum Autoloader 3.

Problems were:

- The drive was seen as standalone instead of library

- The drive was reported as off-line

- The tapes were reported as incompatible media

I spend some days and a long weekend reinstalling drivers and trying out different combinations and somehow just updating drivers did not seem to work, I would like to share how I got it back:

Start fresh:

1. In Backup Exec rightclick the drive to set off-line after that remove it.

2. Rightclick the library to set off-line after that remove it

3. Set Backup Exec service to start manual

4. With the device configuration wizard delete all Symantec drivers

5. In the device manager delete the tape drive (Credence Atrium 3 SCSI Sequential Device)

6. In the device manager delete the library shown as Medium Changer (shown as unknown or as Quantum Superloader)

7. Shut down the Autoloader and reboot the server.

8. Shut down the server, switch the Autoloader on, when its shows he is ready, switch on the server.

9. In the Computer Management install the following drivers:

- Quantum Corporation version 2.2.5.0 (location: bus nr. 0, ID 5, LUN 1)

- Symantec Corporation version 5.1.23.0 (location: bus nr. 0, ID 5, LUN 0)

10. Now start Backup Exec services and start the program, now hopefully like in my case everything works normal.

It can be a real pain in the *** the combination of a Quantum Autoloader 3 and Backup Exec. but when it works, it work very fine.

Regards,

Wilbert
