How to restore edb file from an Exchange 2003 Std

siff

Hi,

I need help to restore the edb file from an Exchange 2003 server.

The server doesn't exist anymore, now we have exchange 2010. I try to restore from many ways without success. I need to access edb file from the backup (on tape). I don't know if I can do this with the backup method used at that time. I don't know if it's a streaming method or a snapshot method. I have the Microsoft information store with the storage group and I have the possibility to restore  individual items.

Can someone help me, I'm not a expert with this product. thank you.

Hi, thank for your answer smiley

It seems interesting but I don't know if it's a GRT backup, I just know that I can restore individual elements (so it is a granular backup).

If it is a GRT backup what is the process in order to restore the file, because I use a lot of method without success ? From what I've read, you have to duplicate the job on disk to create an imf folder where the file is stored.

With our echange 2010 (VM in ESX) we use vranger and Quest RME to recover data. I can use Quest RME to recover an edb file from Exchange 2003, my only problem is to extract it from the backup tape.

Ok I've found the way to duplicate a backup job here :

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH24544

I don't know if it will be the solution to my problem because I'm not sure if the backup is a GRT but I will try.

If this was a snapshot backup, you can directly restore EDB to disk like this:

(If this was a snapshot backup, would show you in BE restore window)

I think you may have to build an Exchange 2003 Recovery environment in order to restore the data to, as we don;t support restores between versions of Exchange due to limitaions in the APIs we have to use.
