IDR with Backup-to-Disk Folders

I know this question has been asked and answered in the KB at http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253655.htm but I'm too dumb to understand it.
If I have a Backup-to-Disk Folder set up pointing to a workstation and do a full backup to that folder, can I use that for IDR recovery?
The KB article says you can't use a local backup-to-disk file. Is this file not local since it's sitting on a workstation?
The KB article further states "A file that resides on a remote media server, however, can be used in a remote IDR." Does this workstation apply as a remote media server?
Please pardon my ignorance and thanks for your help.

Hello Lnden,

Initially let us know whether you would like to perform a Local IDR or Remote IDR?

As mentioned in the KB, A local backup-to-disk file cannot be used to perform a local Intelligent Disaster Recovery. However to perform a Local IDR(Media Server) you need to backup the Data on the Tape Drive attached locally.

To perform a Remote IDR(Remote System), the data/backup of the remote system can be stored on a Backup-to-Disk folder created on the Media Server locally.

Alternatively, you can also refer to the administrator's manual for Backup exec 9.1 (page 901 onwards) for more information.

Just to be clear. Suppose I have two machines, a server and a workstation. The server is hosting Backup Exec and the workstation is used only as a target for a Backup-to-Disk Folder.

What I would like to do is make a full backup of the server to the Backup-to-Disk folder on the workstation, create an IDR bootable CD, and be able to perform an IDR of the server machine.

If I understand correctly this isn't possible. An IDR of the server has to be done from a backup stored on the server's tape drive, even though the backup-to-disk file itself is stored on the workstation, not the server. Have I got it right now?

A full backup is taking multiple tapes now. That's why I'd like to avoid using it if possible. Thanks again for the help.

Yes, you are correct. A locally attached tape drive is required to carry out IDR operation and data of Backup Exec server if stored on remote workstation on a B2D folder will not be helpful in restoring the Backup Exec server.
