I installed a new tape drive. The Ultium 5-SCSI from HP, but when I try to erase the tape or do an inventory it stays on queued and nothing happens.
I installed the tape drive with the symantec drivers. I have BE 2010.

Have you tried pausing and unpuasing server from the devices tab of BE console.
Also check the Hardware compatibility list of BE2010

Hi Phillip,
If you are running Windows Server 2003 also make sure that the Removable Storage service is stopped and disabled, as this causes issues with BE controlling the drive.
If a stand-alone drive, it doesn't need a terminator as the drive itself self-terminates. If there is 1 on there, take it off and try again.
Thanks!

I tried pausing and un pausing the server -> it didn't work
The hardware is compatible with BE 2010
I have a Windows Server 2008 Standard with SP2
If I try the HP Library & Tape Tools then I can read/write data to the tape and the connectivity is OK.

OK...next couple of questions:
1. What is it connected too? SCSI card or RAID controller? If a SCSI card, try connecting to a RAID controller and restart the server.
2. Check the SCSI cabling and make sure it is securely connected.
3. You don't mention which version of BE you're running. If you're not running BE 2010 R3, download and install it. You can use the same license keys you currently have. Grab a copy of the Data/Catalogs folders before doing the upgrade. Once done, run LiveUpdate and install BE 2010 R3 SP1. Once done, run LiveUpdate again as there is a new DDI package that was released a couple of days after SP1. Install that. Uninstall the drive from Windows and delete out of BE. Restart the server, and then run the Device Configuration Wizard again to install the Symantec drivers.
4. Run an Inventory job again.
Thanks!

As you have replaced the drive, make sure to run the Device Driver Installation wizard witin BE:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO22788
(You mention an HP LTO5 drive, this drive is only available in SAS & Fibre Channel, what kind of controller are you using).

It's a SAS drive and it's connected to a Smart Array P212 Controller.

That should run fine, I have got such a setup running fine. I suggest to run de DDI wizard as mentioned above.

It still doesn't work. I can't get BE2010 R3. (or if someone knows where to get thath he can tel me)

Link to download latest DDI

BE2010R3 can be downloaded here: http://fileconnect.symantec.com/
(you will need a valid serial number in order to download it)

Check the Alerts Tab
It will probably have the reason why it is queued
Also if you havent restarted the BE services since installing the tape restart them

...or you can download the Trialware on the link below without a valid serial, and use your current licenses...

Here are the steps I already tried:
- Removed the tape drive from BE and Windows
- Restarted the server and reinstalled the tape drive in Windows and BE
- Upgraded the firmware off the tape drive
- Tested the connection with HP Library & Tape Tools
All of the above doesn't work.

When you run the HP LT&T utility, did you stop the BE services first? If yes and the utility failed, then the tape drive is faulty or not connected properly.

The L&TT works fine after stopping the BE services.

Did you select the write test?
