Large Amount of SQL Databases to be backed-up

Greetings All,

I would've posted this in the SQL portion of the forum but the only thing going on there are crickets chirping.

I have many, many MSSQL 2005 databases that need to be backed-up nightly.  We're talking just over 1,000.

I have the SQL agent and AOFO option at my disposal.

Each Backup Exec database connection to the SQL server takes approximately 5 SQL.exe threads, and if I try to backup several (like more than 15) databases at a time the job will "bomb" the server and I must reboot it.

Is there anyway around this?  We are a very specific organization with an unusual database structure, and I need to come up with a solution to this issue.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Is it as simple as increasing the amount of threads to be used on the SQL server?

Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Best, Jack
