Media Import into Non-Default Media Set

A client of ours, running multiple backup jobs with multiple media sets, ran into this. Following a failed backup job with one of these media sets (NB: NOT Media Set 1), a NEW, BLANK tape cartridge was loaded to rerun the job. No sooner had the cartridge loaded and been inventoried, but it was imported into the media set used by the last backup.

Does BackupExec retain media settings from the last job until the next one is actually active, or is there some other mechanism at work in this instance?

Hi There

This should not happen if you introduce a new blank tape and run inventory it should show up in scratch media and not imported to the media set. A tape is allocated to the media set only if a backup job is fired. As you are sure the tape is new and there is not data on it. Try running erase job on it and it should sure show up in scratch media

Second solution is to run repair data base

Hope this helps!!!!

Hi,

We apologise for the inconvenience caused because of the delayed response. Please let us know if your issue still persists. If yes, please refer the steps mentioned below. If not, we will mark this case as ‘assumed answered’ and move it to ‘answered questions’ pool:

** Erase the media. This tape will be moved into the SCRATCH media set after the erase job is complete. If the tape is not moved to the SCRATCH media set by default then manually move it.
