Media not found and inventory not working

Hi I have a HP server with a Storageworks Ultrium 215 Tape drive installed.

The product ID from within Veritas backupexec states a Ultrium 1-SCSI

Running V10.0 with SP1 installed(not the hotfixes as they didnt seem relevant)

It seems like BE is detecting the device as it is listed and shopws the SCSI port etc. However there is no media, inventory jsut runs forever and returns nothing (ihave to cancel it)

In the removable storage snap in it is listed under libraries but has a big red X over the icon for the device. If i go to properties and uncheck the enable device oiption I get an error "The operation cannot be performed on an offline library"

I have messed about with so many options its silly, such as using Veritas drivers(default) removing the veritas ones and letting windows use PnP.....I have downloaded drivers from the HP website and downloaded the veriats drivers set but this says its not valid for this version??

Please can somebody help im really stuck what to do :( and not sure where to go next. My systems are not being backed up and im a little anxious to say the least :o

Thanks in advance Antony

Hi,

- What is the status of the inventory job in job monitor?

- Check for any active alerts in BE!

- Refer this technote:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/278112

- Disable Removal Storage service in Windows.
When using the device drivers provided by VERITAS the device must be disabled in RSM.

- If you are running BE v10.0 build 5484, you can also upgrade to build 5520:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/277181.htm

* After update reinstall all remote agents!

- Install latest drivers thereafter:

Hello Antony,

Sorry we did not want to sound impersonal. We apologise for the same.

Would you please check the System Log, (Event Viewer ), if you have event IDs 5, 7, 9, 11, 15 with the source being the SCSI card or the device drivers ?

IIf yes you may refer to the following technotes.

How to troubleshoot issues with a Robotic Library or Tape Drive in Backup Exec 9.x and 10.0

http://support.veritas.com/docs/255501

How to troubleshoot error messages about Event ID 9 and Event ID 11

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314093

This most probably is a hardware issue, hence we also recommend that you get the device checked from HP.

Hope this helps. Do give us an update.

Have you ever had this drive work or is this a new install?

You can download the HP Storageworks Library and Tape tools from the HP support website . You will have to stop all BE services before running a read/write test.

At the very least you can eliminate the possibility of a hardware problem.

If it is a hardware problem this will be the first thing HP support will have you do anyway.

You will have to relable the tape in BE after the test as the format will be differentMessage was edited by:
