Media not showing in devices tab Backup Exec 10d

I have a HP DAT 72 tape drive in our Windows 2003 Server. I have just installed Backup Exec 10d to backup our server data to a native 36GB tape. The media does not show i9n the devices tab. II get the message "The media in HP 1 is written in an unrecognized format. Erase the media to make it usable. The erase link is greyed out so I can't!!

The question is why isn't Backup Exec seeing the media in the tape drive. When it does how can I erase it and what can I do to fix this problem.
The tape drive is visible in the devices in Backup Exec.

- Have you tried Inventoring and cataloging the tape?
- Also do you have Barcode Rules activated?
