Hello, running Backup Exec (12.5, 2010 and 2010 R2) at various sites,
Is there a definitive guide to restoring a complete SBS 2008 Server on to completely different hardware using Backup Exec only?
By this I mean, the O/S, Active Directory,Exchange, SQL and Sharepoint.
We have full backups of our servers, all boxes ticked.
All we seem to get are Blue Screens of Death after a restore of the system state.
Is there a better product out there?
Thanks!
Adrian.

Symantec does not support restore of server to a different hardware.
For DR of SBS 2008 refer to http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH87893

You can try using NetBackup Bare Metal Restore (7.0.1 release).
Specifially SBS 2008 restore has not been tried out but it supports win2008/R2 DSR (dissimilar sytem restore).
NOTE: NB-BMR is tightly coupled cross-platform DR solution with Symantec-NetBackup. It does not support restore from BE backup.
Thanks.

As others say, Backup Exec doesn't do dissimilar hardware.
In this scenario I'd recommend Backup Exec System Recovery. Similar name, but a different product. It does dissimilar hardware recovery, as well as several other things.
