Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error

I am unable to install Backup Exec 12d on our new Backupserver.

Backupserver is running Windows 2003 R2 and the Environment check says everything is OK, nonetheless setup fails everytime with the error

'Runtime Error!

Program J:\WINNT\INSTALL\BE\setup.exe

This application has requested the RunTime to terminate in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for information'

Please advise as soon as possible.

Tried installing after copying files to harddisk, same problem.

Try running a repair install .NET 2.0 and reboot the server and try installation. If you still have issues, you can might want to uninstall and re-install .NET 2.0 (make sure that no other programs are using it before you uninstall it.)

I can't deinstall dot.net 2.0 from the server. I found a MS KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306160 --> and ran NetFx20SP1_x86.exe /t:c:\temp /c:"msiexec.exe /i c:\temp\netfx.msi REINSTALL=ALL ReinstallMODE=vomus"

This gives me: 'This program is already installed'

After a server reboot the installation still gives me the same error...

Try a repair from add remove programs by selecting .NET 2.0 and selecting the change option.

Add/remove programs

Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 --> Change

It show a Windows Installer screen with caption 'Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1'

After about 1.5 mins it returns to Add or Remove Programs.

Tried installing Backup Exec 12d, same error as before...
