Moving Backup Exec 2012 SP3 to a new server

BojanKG
Level 3

Our HP Proliant DL 180 G5 server (runs Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) , where two years ago we installed Backup Exec 2012 on, is reaching the end of it's lifetime so we plan to buy a new server (probably we will install Windows Server 2012 R2 OS on it). I need the steps which have to be done in order to migrate Backup Exec 2012 SP3 to a new server. We have not decided yet whether the new server will have the same DNS computer name as existing server or different one so I need the steps for both scenarios. We use deduplication disk on SAN and IBM Tape Library as backup storage.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

In order to do the move, check the TN below:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH67768

Also, Server 2012 and R2 are not supported as a media server...you would need to stick with Windows Server 2008 R2 for now. This is being addressed with BE 2012 R2, as per below:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/backup-exec-2012-r2-update-news-about-windows-server-2...

So my advice would be to install Win2K8 R2 on the new server and use the TN below to move your current data to the new media server.

Thanks!
