Hi,

I'm consultaning at a firn which is retiring the server that Backup Exec resides on.

What is the best method of moving the database/program.

Is there any documentation out there for this?

I guess I could just do a clean install and recreate the jobs but

then I'll lose the history of what's on each tape.

Anyone?

I thought I remembered one of the Symantec Techs response that the easiest way was to copy the install directoy to the new server, then install on top, but can't find the thread now

To move just the database, see http://support.veritas.com/docs/286093 though there have been some reports of this not working

You can also use BEUTIL to save database to a file (this is also done everynight by default to BEDB.BAK), then use BEUTIL again to "Recover from a file" on the new server

If you copy the catalogs directory to the new server, and stop/start the services on the new server, it ought to pick up all the old ones

Thanks for the info.

I checked out the link that you sent and the problem that I see

is that the servers will not have the same name.

Do you know if that's the case with the BEUtil?

Title says to a new Server with the same or different server name. so it shouldn't be a problem

(Though I might ask how you can have two servers with the same name active on the network at the same time?)
