NDMP Restores are too slow

Hi All,

Backup of Netapp Filer using Backup Exec 2010 goes with around 2.5 to 3.0 gb/min.

I have problem with the restores as the speed is just around 76 mb/min for a directory restore.

Also we have DAR enable, still same issue is being faced.

Any help on this.

Try the restore with DAR turned off.

you mean to say I should disable DAR before restore and try tht.

but as per my knowledge DAR restore should be faster than normal.

any clarity on same.

Yes.

From TN:"The general expectation is that DAR will greatly increase the restore speed, but this is not always the case. It will depend on the amount and size of the data backed. The larger the INODES during the backup the slower the restore. An NDMP restore has to read the inode map and that is more than likely what is causing the issue."

The foolowing TN explains this well. It points at NBU but the explanation is well enough to understand why  DAR restores are very slow some times.

I have ran restore with disabling the DAR option.

Still the speed now is around 130-140 MB/min.

And the backup happens at around 2600-2900 MB/min

Are you trying restores, when your data mover is serving too many things to clients?

Speed also depends on the data movers readiness.

Thanks...
