maybe I don't know where to look or i'm just not very good at this. I'm needing a to keep some stuff for like seven years and I need a routine that would help me get a good yearly backup (i've never had to do this before so i've no idea how). Does this suppot that and if so are there any good articles, links that would help me with this? Thanks!

All you need to do is to set a job to do your backup on a yearly schedule and in your job specify that you wnat to retain your data for 7 years.  I would suggest that you keep a disk specifically for this purpose.

Here are a couple of good discussions to look at:

Are you backing up to disc or tape?
