It appears from the error that Backup Exec connection to the remote agent was lost. Backup Exec for Windows servers (BEWS) installs a copy of Remote agent locally on the Backup Exec server.

Local backup of media server also use the Remote agent. This is by design of this product and enhances backup performance.

Perform the following steps for resolution:

1. Stop all non essential third party software and Antivirus software services prior to backup operation.

2. Change the priority of remote agent and verify backup. Refer to the following technote for the same:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253094.htm

3. You may also reinstall the Remote agent with the help of following technote’s.

I am experiencing the same error using BackupExec 10 to backup a web server which has the Remote Agent installed. The server is the other side of a firewall, I have opened port 10000 TCP which seems to be the required port for the Remote Agent.

Please advise if I should open any other ports on the firewall or any other action that I may take to resolve this problem.

Thanks.
