Hi,

I am running Symantec Backup exec 10d on Win server stroage 2003 and have backup that run without problems. I need to restore some files from a few days ago but when I go to restore the backup sets are not listed. All I can see is a backup set for the previous day and for one for 2006.

I've looked throught the support Knowledge base but cannot find anything.

Any help apreciated
Abe

Is Global Overwrite Protection set to either Full or Partial and NOT None

How many media sets are you using?

What is the OPP (Overwrite Protection Period) of your media set(s)

Overwrite protection is set to overwrite media. Is that waht you mean?
we are backing up to 2 tapes

I can't seem to find the OPP  (Overwrite Protection Period)

OPP (Overwrite Protection Period) is set at the media set level, not the individual tape volume level

From the Media Tab, right click the media set\Properties

What I was going for is "are the backups contunually overwriting the same tapes?"  if so, you will only see one backup in the Restore Selections  pane

Are you doing an Inventory every time that you change tapes?

we have a set of about 16 tapes.
the OOP is set at 1 Hour

We backup various servers and some are showing restore sets for all the backups we have done for the last month but some are only showing one for the previous day and one for the end of last year.

I don't think we are doing a Inventory each time we backup is this essential?

That's the only way to tell BackupExec that the tape has been changed.

If you are not doing the inventory, that's probably the problem.  The job completes OK, the data is all on the tape, but since BackupExec doesn't know about the change, it updates it's record for the tape volume that it thinks is mounted
