Quantum DLT VS160

241108695
Not applicable
recently upgraded tape devices to DLT VS160.
Server2K3 recognizes OK.
BENT (v. 9.x and 10.x) recognizes OK as DLT-VS160

Problem: although tape rated at 80/160gb
~BENT requests new tape after every 40gb during bkups

devices tab - highlight Quantum DLT, media show 80'ish gb (78.7 - understandable)
device properties-> media types does not show VS160 in compatibility list

has anybody else seen this or can you help me troubleshoot and diagnose?

Hello there,

Did you enable hardware or software compression on the job? We suggest you to test both the compression methods and let us know the results.

At backup job properties, under General tab | select the compression method. You may find the following document useful:

We hope this helps. Should you have further doubts or queries, do reply to this post and we will be glad to assist you.

Hello,

Further install the latest Drivers from the following link.

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273853.htm

Please update the drive firmware to the latest.

To diagnose the cause of issue please cross-check the compression ratio from Windows native backup utility (ntbackup) with hardware compression(if supported by tape device)enabled. Select the same type/amount of data to backup and observe the result.

Hope this helps.
