Restore using Recovery Storage Group

Hi,

Am somewhat of a total newbie at all this but here goes.

We have BE12 on W2K3 with an Exchange Server on a different server to the BE server. I need to restore a mailbox store to a Recovery Storage Group that I have created on the same Exchange server but can not find any definitive explanation as to how the restore works, ie does it know to put it to the RSG and not the live Mailbox store as there is no way to specify this in the restore job?

I just want to make sure that I am not going to be touching the live mailbox store and screw everything up.

Cheers
BJ

Hi BJ,

I've used it many times with no problems (YES, it scares at first time).
You have a Storage Group with at least one database. Then you create a RSG and add the database you need to restore.
From Backup Exec, you restore the database without redirection. Since there is a rsg with that database, the original database wont be overwritted. When restore finish you'll be able to extract any mailboxes with exmerge.

There is another approach, a little more complicated, using a rsg in another exchange server, and then you restore redirecting to that server...
