Returning Media from Vault

Didger

We are running BE12.5 with a HP MSL 4048 tape changer.

I am exporting tapes to the off-site vault OK.

What are the correct steps to bring them back from the vault, into the BE,  when they can be used again.

Thanks for any help...  Geoff

If your tapes are coming back one at a time, you can put them into the mailslot and import them into the slot that you want them to go.  In the Devices tab, you only need to right-lick on the appropriate slot and then select Import.  If you tapes have barcode labels, they will be recognised immediately and would be placed in the correct media set.  If your tapes do not have barcode labels, then you either check the auto-inventory option in the import job or run an inventory job on the slot after the tape is imported.

If you have a bunch of tapes coming back at one time, remove the magazine(s), put them in the appropriate slot and then return the magazine(s) to the library.  After this, either do a scan of the whole library if the tapes have barcode labels.  Otherwise do an inventory of the whole library.
