SAN Based Backup :-Configuring Backup Exec jobs to backup over Fiber instead of LAN

vasimm
Not applicable
Following is the environment

2 Blade enclosures loaded with 13 Hyper-V Server Managed by SCVMM hosting 3 Hyper-V Clusters
Storage is HP 3PAR connected to Brocade San Switch
1 Physical Rack Server Running Backup Exec Application connected to VTL and TL through Brocade SAN SWITCH Zoning

We Need to be able to ensure that VM based backups Happens(if possible also the application level backup e.g Exchange and SQL) over Fiber/SAN as the common connectivity point is BROCADE SAN SWITCH

As far as we understand all the Hyper-V LUNS to be presented to the backup exec Server and auto mount should be disabled on the backup exec server, please correct if not right.

What options in Backup Exec needs to be selected for the Backup Agent to know that this job needs to done over Fiber or SAN connectivity

Can Any body help sharing their experience with same

Hyper-V doesn't offer transport methods as VMware does. For egs, VMware offers LAN based, SAN based, Hot-Add etc, though Hyper-V doesn't.

As far as we understand all the Hyper-V LUNS to be presented to the backup exec Server and auto mount should be disabled on the backup exec server, please correct if not right.

This applies to VMware and when SAN Transport Mode is chosen.

Verbatim taken from above reference link - "If Hyper-V is involved then the only option is to make the Hyper-V hosts into media servers"

I wrote a blog explaining ways to avoid using the corporate LAN in different environments. Hyper-V is mentioned as requiring the Hyper-V host(s) to be made into Backup Exec Servers (which used to be called Media Servers)
