Scratch media moving to media set after job runs for first time...

Kevin_J
Level 3
Scenario:

Powervault 124t.
I have a number of daily "full" backup jobs, and each has it's own media set (which will contain only 1 tape).
All tapes right now have been erased and sitting in "scratch media."
"Tuesday Full" is set to run tonight - will it just grab the first available tape in the "scratch media" list, write data to it and when finished, move that tape to the "Tuesday" media set and basically begin the OPP (set to 6 days).

If so, basically when each job is set to run that night, I'll need to make sure that the tape I want assigned to that backup job and media set is first in line in the "scratch media?"

Thanks.

When i truns, BackupExec will bgrb the "oldest" tape it can find (the one that has been scratch/overwritable longest (within the constraints fo the Global options at Tools\Media Management - "use available media in target media set before scratch", so you could manage things by earliest available date.

Or you could partition the library, and create a job for each night pointed at the associated partition. Backup Exec will only look at the slot(s) in that partition

From the Devices tab, right click the library- Define Partitions

Perfect, thanks Ken.

Created a partition for each slot.
Each job is pointed at the partition to grab the correct tape (and not take the oldest one from "scratch media").
All tapes that haven't been written to yet are still in "scratch media" and will be automatically moved to the proper media set after the 1st run (and inherit the OPP).

I think I got it! :)

Thanks again!
