I am trying to create a high-level description of the process of restoring a SharePoint farm, assuming the following:
1. A bare-metal restore on both the Web Server and SQL Server
2. Backup Exec 12 or 12.5 with Windows, SharePoint and SQL agents
3. All the components under the SharePoint Farm, the SQL dbs and System State are backed up
I have never done one of these restores and I want to make sure I accurately reflect the process for the non-technical or semi-technical folks. I've read the Admin Guide and it doesn't seem to go into the bare metal restore in a way that seems very understandable. Here is what I have so far:
1. Reinstall SharePoint and SQL on the servers as in the previous environment.
2. Install any required updates to Windows, SharePoint and SQL.
3. Install and configure Backup Exec.
4. Restore the following items from Backup Exec:
a. System State on each SharePoint Web Server
b. The SQL instance on the SQL Server
c. The SharePoint farm from Backup Exec
d. %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\12
Am I missing any critical components to restore this SharePoint environment? Do I need to run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Wizard before I do my restore in Backup Exec?
