I am trying to figure out if the BKUPEXEC and BKUPEXECDLO databases should be chosed in the selection list to be backed up. Can someone please let me know if these should be backed up and what information they contain. Thank you.

This databases contain primarily your media catalogs and backup/restore jobs. As such they must be backed up regularly, since losing them will result in loosing all your logs and Cataloged info... requiring you to manually reconstruct your catalog.
There is a Agent named IDR which will auromate the restoration of your BackUp Media Server so a faster recovery might be achieved whenever your media server dies... this agen even creates a bootable disk or CD which will automate OS recovery and media catalgo backup restoration.

just to clarify: The BE catalogs are NOT stored in the BE database. They are flat files stored in the catalog directory of your BE server.

It is correct, that the BE database needs to be backed up in order to be able to recover the BE server after a crash. (with or without IDR Option)

As the database is an online SQL database (bedb_dat.mdf) it will be skipped by a regular file backup.
Therefore BE dumps the database once a day (default 04:00 am) to a file named bedb.bak. This is the file you should backup daily. It is stored in the same directory as the BE database. (normally the data directory of BE)

Hello,

You are not required to backup BEDB. They are backed up by default or as per their schedule.
