Backups of Netware server range from very slow to very fast

Paul_Gray

Media server: W2KP w/gigabit NIC
Remote server: Netware 6.5.1w/gigabit NIC (agent present)
Backup device: Quantum LTO-2 Superloader
both servers connected to gigabit switch
backups vary from 111 MB/min to 900 MB/min

I cannot put a finger on what causes one backup to run so fast and the next to crawl. This backup includes 250-330GB and the Superloader was bought to enable this to run in a reasonable amount of time: however, last night's backup is only about 60% done and has been running for 17 hours. Can anyone help me?
