Simple Question re Network Shares

Paul_Donovan

Hi,

When setting up a backup job I browsed a remote server (with remote agent on it) and selected both Network Shares and the drives that those shares are on e.g.:

MyShare (which is a directory on C drive)
C$

are both part of the selection. The resulting backup was a massive amount of data - more than I was expecting ... would that be because I'm backing up both the share and its underlying drive? Shall I make sure I don't include shares and presumably by backing up system state etc. the shares themselves will magically be restored even if they aren't part of the selection?

Confused,

Paul

You are getting more data because you are backing up the same data twice.
In your scenario you'd just want to back up the drives, as the shares are a subset of them.
If you backup the drives and the system state, your shares would reappear in the event of a restore.
