Slow Backup from DC with backup Exec but fast using ntbackup

Abanks

Hi All,
I'm having problems backing up my Domain Controller. Its running at 50MB/min whereas if I use ntbackup it runs at 1500MB/min and using remote agent on a Terminal server its runs at 2.5GB/s.

The environment is an IBM Blade S, with 6 HS21's and an IBM TS3100 tape device.

As a workaround I use ntbackup to copy from teh DC to the Exchange Server and then this is backed up separately.

All the hardware for each Blade is the same. The DC has attached storage, but this doesn't bother ntbackup. Exchange has attached storage too, again with no issues.

I've tried backing up just the local C drive on the blade but with the same slow result with BExec.

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers

Andy.

1) have you tried with a new tape ?

2) anything in the event logs ?

3) Can you run a diagnostics on the tape drive to see if it is dying ?
4) verify that you have a symanted/veritas tape driver for you device installed and not a windows version.
