Specifying the NIC Remote Agent Will Use

Philip_Hershey

We're familiar with specifying on the media servers which NIC will be used for a backup job, but I need to know how to do it for the target system's Remote Agent. We have multiple servers which are multi-homed to different subnets and have both a 100Mbps and a 1Gbps NIC. From the backup job statistics, it seems the lower speed NIC must be the one the job is going over. How do I tell the Remote Agent to use only the 1GB NIC? Or does the Agent automatically choose the faster connection, implying that I have other performance issues? Typically we'll get significantly higher speeds. Thanks.

If you have specified the GB NIC on the media server, the Remote Agent should respond on that network.

Easy enough to check. Start a backup and check network stats on the target server to see which NIC is in constant use.

Hi,

Go to Tools > Options > Network > Network Interface, and change network
card to correct one.

Have you selected the option "Use any available Network
Route for Remote Agents not bound to the above Network ID"?

You may try adding the IP address and Server name of remote machine into
the hosts file of the Backup Exec server. Also, create a hosts file on the
remote machine with the IP address and name of Backup Exec server.
