Sql Server 2005 restore fails-"pipe" is bad Device Type

We have made backup of Sql Server 2K5 database (64 bit) using Backup Exec-BE (version 10, to tape). Backup server is Win 2K3 machine (32 bit). To test this backup we decided to restore it to Sql Server 2K5 that is installed on the same backup server. But restore failed with error V-79-57344-33938 pipe is not a recognized Device Type. When we tried backup-restore file using BE- its fine, backup-restore database using Sql Server (not BE) - its fine also. We checked all setting of BE but could not find anything that point to Device Type. What can be the reason for this error? Thanks

Hi,

What is the exact error in job log?

Thanks for your prompt answer.
We just repeated restore of database Test from backup that we made to disk using BE and got exactly same error (but faster this time)- V-79-57344-33938 An error occurred on a query to database Test; V-79-57344-33938 - "pipe" is not a recognized Device Type option.
Regarding two references you pointed me- 1) we are doing Full backup and 2) it's User database (not System). Thanks

Hello,

Please disable the Forced Named Pipe Key in the registry on backup server
HKey Local Machine\Software\Veritas\Backup Exec\Engine\SQL Server\Forced Named Pipe Backup/Restore set value to 0 and then verify if it works.
