Symantec Backup Exec 2010 and VCB

We are currently using backup exec 12.x with VCB to backup our VMs.  We are upgrading to Backup Exec 2010 because we need the backup exec 2010 agent for Exchange 2010.  Will we still be able to backup our VMWare guests with Backup Exec 2010 using VCB?  Or will we need to do something different to backup these VMs?  Thank you

Hi

With BE 2010 it would be using Vstorage API & not VCB so with backupexec 2010 to do backup & to do restore for Vmware it is going to use that API so you must have vmware license for it installed on media server

Thank You

What version of ESX is in your environment as you will need to run one that is vSphere compatible with BE 2010.

Hopefully you are not stuck with Exchnage 2010 and ESX 3.x as your combination as this could provide some compatibility challenges

We are running ESX 3.5.0, 143128 (which I believe is update 3), what kind of challenges will we have?  Thanks

OK ESX 3.5 upadte 2 sewesm to be minimum requirementfor vSphere/vStorage support so you should be OK with BE 2010 R2

My concern was if you had been on an older update that your ESX version would only be compatible with BE 12.5 but that your Exchnage requirement would only be compatible with 2010 which would have been challenging to solve
