System State unavailable for backup

Good Morning,

I've recently taken over the Network Admin role of a company, and now I'm reviewing all the backup jobs, etc. I realize that there is a server that the System State is unavailable to be chosen for backup. I went through the process of stopping and starting the service, along with removing and reinstalling the Remote Agent, both to no avail.

I would appreciate any help on this matter. Please keep in mind that these are production servers, and rebooting either server is not an option. I've already stretched my limits by installing software during the day, I don't want to push that any further :) Thank you in advance!

Hi Peter,

There could be any number of reasons, but some of the more common reasons could be:

- Different Versions of Windows
- If it's a Windows 2003 Server make sure Volume Shadow Copy services are running on the server - this is the only way to backup System State.
