Tape Drive Hardware Compression

Just wondering.......

I am using a HP LTO4 tape drive, in my backup jobs I select Hardware compression.

Am I going to be able to restore from this tape using a different vendor LTO4 tape drive??

I guess I am asking if the compression is vendor specific (which means I need a HP tape drive at my DR site) or part of the LTO4 specification and I can use any vendor tape drive that supports LTO4

Hardware compression is part of the LTO4 specs.  You can restore a hardware compressed tape on another vendor's tape drive.
