Tape Overwritten

For some reason even though BE is configured not to overwrite protected media, I've found 2 tapes that have had their specific data erased and replaced with something else.

My immediate though is that the previous data is gone without trace but can someone confirm that there is absolutly nothing we can do to retrieve even part of the data lost.
