Hello

Download BE2010 media from www.backupexec.com. Its an ISO of 3GB, extract the ISO.

Before you proceed with the upgrade process, Stop the SQL Server BKUPEXEC service used by backup exec 12.5 and then take a backup

of  DATA & CATALOGS folder from X:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec folder. Run the browser.exe from the media of BE 2010.

Refer to the below link for the detailed upgrade process.

hello ,,
during the upgrade , when I entered the licenses there is a message shows: you dont have a license for SYMC BACKUP EXEC OPTION SHARED STORAGE .
either you have enter the license or remove the shared storage from the old one.

and  when I upgrade the licenses its come Opthion shared storage version 12.5.

what is the option shared storage for ?

thank you all for your swift cooperation.

The option is also called SAN Shared storage option . It enables multiple media servers to share the secondary storage devices such as robotic libraries in SAN .The secondary storage Devices are not direclty connected to a single server by SCSI but are connected via fibre switch (FC-SW)

Hi ,

Finally I'm finished install Back exec 2010 but  when I'm open the console there is a message shows services not running or not installed.
When I check the services there are two services can't started ( backup exec server and backup exec job engine )

Any Suggestions?

Thanks ,

Download and install the latest hotfix from http://support.veritas.com/docs/348284

First kill the BE server service from the task manager, the status of the service should NOT be starting.

If the service is not getting killed then try to disable the service and then reboot the server.

After reboot install the above hotfix, its a known issue.

I have upgraded successfully (fresh installation ) but I can't restore jobs from the previous version.

I copied the data and catalogs folder from the previous version. When I paste these two folders to the same location it had problem with services that can’t start some services.

And I tried to restore only the catalogs folder (Without Data folder) and start successfully backup exec 2010 console but the jobs was not restore.

I need your support for how can I restore the jobs.

Thank you

You can try to restore your jobs by using BEMIG to upgrade your database.  Follow the procedure below

By simply replacing the data & catalogs folder will not fix the issue. Refer to the below post of PKH to migrate database.

Hii ,

I did all the steps in the document but it had a problem. it can't start the services.

in the document there is a note : don't follow the steps if you have Shared Storage Option (SSO) is installed.

Any idea ?

Which service is not starting and what is the error message in the Windows System log ?

In the previous version did you make use of SSO?

these are the services was not running :
backup exec agent browser
backup exec job engine
backup exec server
backup exec  device and media service

yes I used SSO in the previos version.
and when i installed the new version BE2010 , I can't complete the installation without SSO ( it must be install )
