Upgrade backup exec from 12.5 to 2012

Hello, Bonjour, Guten tag and hola!

I'm very much new here but not to BE. I'm in a situation with a client that hasn't been keeping up to date on their backup exec. They are currently sporting backup exec 12.5 Rev 2213 and I am wanting to upgrade them to BE 2012.

My question is do I need to do an interum upgrade to 2010 before I up them to 2012? I can't seem to find a step by step on upgrading from 2010 to 2012.

They are running Windows 2008 standard SP 2 and are using an agent to backup a second server which is their main file server. They have exchange and an exchange agent and also backup an SQL database.

I look forward to any guidance you can give me.

Kind regards,

Richard

Hi Richard, First thing's first: check out the upgrade guide below: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH180232 BE 12.5 can be directly upgraded to BE 2012. Just grab copies of the Data/Catalogs folders before doing anything. Furthermore, check pkh's article below which will really assist you in getting your upgrade done: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/preparing-install-or-upgrade-be-2012 Thanks!

What about upgrading from 32bit 12.5 to 64bit 2012, any known issues?

...I've gone from Windows 2003 x32 to Windows Server 2008 R2 no hassles, but this was the same version (BE 2010 R3). As long as your physical server is 64-bit already, there should be no problems. Thanks!
