Upgrade from Backup Exec 2010 to 2010R3 and then possible upgrade to 2012

WMTR_Admin

I am currently running BE2010 and am planning on upgradign to 2010R3 I just saw that 2012 is (or will soon be) avaiable and we may opt to go all the way to 2012. I need to move all jobs and D2D folders forward as I upgrade. Are there any specific issues that I need to be aware of as I move foreward?

The Exchange Backup job ran..... and failed about 75% through the verification..... See Job log below... I was connected to the Backup server through an RDP session monitoring the progress when the failure occured. My RDP session did not drop.

...is the RAWS agent not perhaps stopping on the Exchange server?

In the meantime, I will hit the support flag on this...if you get a solution, post back here & close it off...

Found this article that seems to apply in this instance - Event ID 9840 or 9607 is logged when a VSS backup operation fails in Exchange 2007 or in Exchange 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930800

I've had to push the maintenence window back a couple times now, so I haven't had the opportunity to dismount and remount the databases.

We have not reregistered the VSS dll's yet. This would require a reboot of the cluster.... Yes, I know that the reboot itself might just alleviate much of this issue. Currently, VSSADMIN LIST PROVIDERS shows that the Exchange writer is stable and without errors. I've tried excluding the storage group in question from the backup and am now gettign errors that seem to point to the server thinking that a backup is still in process. We will probably restart the MS information store service as a last effort before reregistering the dll's and rebooting the cluster.

...I've run that batch file to reregister the *.dlls on a number of occassions now, and never had to restart the server. You can do so if you feel that would help...

Thanks Craig,

I can't find the source document right now, but I thought that I had one from MS with that script in it that said to reboot after running it.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to leave you hanging out here. I have not been able to arrange for a maintenence window to move forward on this issue. We do have a need to reboot exchange, but there is never a good time to accomplish this.

Rebooted everything EOD yesterday. Backup completed succesfully. Now to set up that sandbox to test BE2012.

Let's close this thread out... I can open a new one for any other issues with our current installation of 2010R3....
