Upgrade required??

Hi,
We are currently running 8.6 and have recently been having problems with backups (Cyclic Redundancy Errors and Erase not working) and I was wondering if upgrading to 9 would solve the problem. I know some companies make software no work after a period of time forcing an upgrade.

We are running Win2000 and have a DDS4 Tape drive for backups.

Thanks.
O.

Your drive may be wearing out.

Are you current on firmware and drivers for the Controller and tape device?

Upgrading to v9 or v10 probably won't resolve this problem

The problem is i have only been working at the company for 8 weeks and the tech guy who used to do all this didn't leave any notes for me to check up on. From what I can work out the drive may be 5 years old which could mean the drive is "wearing out". The backups seemed to be working fine with a couple of fails now and again up until March, and as far as I know since then they have not been able to backup, would this suggest a new DDS4 drive might be required?

Thanks for your help

Could very well be.

Do you have any mfg diagnostics you can run against the drive? Check the mfg support site.

It is mostly an issue with the hardware.
