Upgrade to Backup Exec 2010 R3

We are currently running Backup Exec 2010 R2 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x86 envoronment and plan to upgrade to Backup Exec 2010 R3.  Are there any particular "gotchas" to look out/prepare for, and is there a tech document that outlines the proper upgrade procedure.

Thanks

Hi,

Download the ISO and either mount with an ISO mounting utility, or burn to a DVD.

Stop your BE services, and then grab copies of the Data and Catalogs folders. Once done, start the upgrade.

You can use the same licenses you currently have.

I used to turn off McAfee AV on the media server as this stopped the upgrade of the SQL Express portion at times which became pretty annoying.

Other than that, just make sure you have those backups of the Data/Catalogs folders. Once upgraded, run LiveUpdate to install SP3 for BE 2010 R3 and then run it again to install any subsequent patches. Once this is completed, you can push-install these patches to your remote servers.

Thanks!

EDIT: The link below details how to upgrade to BE 2010 R3 if you want it:

You want be able to upgrade RAWS until after you have upgraded the media server, as the correct install files for the agent will only be available after you have installed/upgraded the media server.

Also patch the media server to latest levels before upgrading the remote agents

i.e. Upgrade to R3, then run LiveUpdate and apply all patches, then re-run liveupdate again until no available patches are shown (reason for running LiveUpdate more than once is you can't see some hotfixes and patches until earlier service packs are applied.)

Note if you don't fully patch the media server before installing remote agents thenyou will have to install the remote agents again to patch them so will have wasted time and effort.

Thanks so much for the quick response. One other question, as far as the remote agents go, we are currently backing up approx 30 different servers across 7 different backup jobs. Will I need to uninstall RAWS on each server prior to running the upgrade?

temporarily check this website, if your mediaserver has no internet-access:

http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/what-updates-service-packs-and-hotfixes-are-released-backup-exec-2010-r3-version

there you find all released sp's and hotfixes.
