Using Backup Exec 12.5 with SATA backup drive

I have just installed a new Quantum DLT V4 tape drive on our system, it is connected via a StarTech SATA card and Windows 2003 picks the device up with no problems, as does BackupExec.

However when we try and run an erase or Backup job the job fails with "Incorrect Function". No other error messages. I can only assume that there is an issue with the communications from the SATA card, but need to confirm this.

If i delete the Quantum from Devices and restart the services and run through the Devize wizard again the Quantum is picked up 1st time with no problems.

Has anybody got any ideas  if this is down to the SATA card?

You might want to try the tracer tool to see what the incorecct function really is.

Along with tracer, you may want to try the device with NTBackup to see if that has the same problem.  If it does you may want to contact your hardware vendor to have them check everything out.
