Using Advanced File Selection to create UNC paths with wildcards fails for me every time while if I choose those same folders using the Graphical format, it works just fine.
Backup server and file server being backed up, Win2k Advanced. Running 10d with SP4.
The job selections are created using the Text Format. A job with one line as simple as this "\\ServerA\F:\Home\a**\*.* / SUBDIR" fails with the error below.
"Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the Remote Agent is installed on the target computer and is running.
Final error category: Resource Errors

However, this backup job works just fine, connecting to the Remote Agent:
"\\ServerA\F:\HOME\*.* /SUBDIR"
The remote agent is installed and works fine. I have 8 backup jobs for different folders on that same file server that all work, unless I use these wildcards. So the question is, why do I get the Remote Agent error and how do I resolve it?
One interesting thing which doesn't seem like an issue, but might be related, is that if you look at each Backup Selection List, in the Graphical view, the jobs that work, without the wildcards, have a partial check (/) in the Remote Selections > Microsoft Windows Network (/) > Domain (/) > ServerA (/) > F: (/) > Home (full check). That is normal.
The Selection Lists with the wildcards, in Graphical view, it looks like: Remote Selections () > Microsoft Windows Network () > Domain () > ServerA (/) > F: (/) > Home (/) > full checks for all folders starting with A. So those selections would appear to select the appropriate files.
